Deborah Kraus for Congress in 2008!! To restore Pride in being a Republican in the 2ND District.
In the 2005 general election, I ran for Union Township trustee in Clermont County Ohio. I did so because I felt our local government needed a change. Unfortunately I was not elected to that position. I felt I still wanted to be able to make a change in the way our government is run. The only way to address this was to find a way to make a difference in our government. In order to be able to make the changes I feel are necessary, I ran for US House of Representatives, 2nd District on the Republican ticket in the May 2006 primary. I had very little money and very little name recognition, but I was able to garner 6.25% of the vote.
The general election has been decided for the second district. It doesn't matter to me who has won, I have already decided to run again in 2008. I believe I can be the kind of representative that will make the second district proud again to announce that they live in the second district and proud to say they are Republican.
I believe the most important change that needs made is HOW our elected officials view their job. In Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, he said 11 words that form the cornerstone of my ideals for public office…I quote “a government of the people, by the people, for the people”. Our elected officials in the past 143 years seem to have forgotten those simple, yet powerful, words. I pledge to you today, if elected to this position, I WILL NOT FORGET THOSE WORDS. I will represent my district as the majority of my fellow citizens wish me too, NOT influenced by big money, special interest groups, or political action committees, who would attempt to sway my votes in favor of their views, NOT necessarily those of my constituents.
I also promise to the best of my ability to NOT embarrass my district by my actions or my words. I will be forthright and upfront with my opinions; I will work diligently to understand all the issues facing my constituents and will work to make that difference I believe our government needs.
In the time between now and the primary in May 2008, I will be traveling throughout the district, meeting as many of my fellow citizens as possible, listening to YOUR issues, and explaining my ideas and beliefs on OUR government. I want you to see me for what I am; an average Joan citizen, someone who will work FOR you, and who will not portray something they are not. You will see the real me, the whole me, and nothing BUT me!!
